Professor Włodzimierz Jarmundowicz, MD PhD Hab. is an active neurosurgeon with 40 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of central and peripheral nervous system disorders and spinal disorders.

The Professor skillfully combines his professional work with his scientific work and his work on the development of neurosurgery. Under his academic supervision many doctors have specialized in neurosurgery, have been awarded doctoral degrees in medical sciences and two doctors habilitated their doctoral degrees in neurosurgery.

He is a member of the Committee on Neurological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Polish Society of Neurosurgeons and the President of the Lower Silesian Foundation for the Development of Health Care.

He has created a team of Wroclaw neurosurgeons and neuroscientists who, as a result of long term scientific research, have achieved functional spinal cord regeneration in a patient with complete core damage by a transplantation of the olfactory neuroglia from to the olfactory bulb to the spinal cord and a reconstruction of the cord with a skin nerve graft. This was the first time such an operation had been performed and it resounded widely in the scientific circles dealing with neuroregeneration as well as in the world media.
